In 1963 he obtained a place to study at the prestigious school of Mikhail Botvinnik, the patriarch of Soviet chess, where Karpov and Kasparov later studied. There he obtained exceptional training, which he developed as a teacher at the National Institute of Physical Education (INEF) in Moscow and at the Spanish University of Distance Education (UNED), when he emigrated to Spain in 1993.
